This test is used to determine the risk of fall in people, assess the progression of balance, sit to stand and standing.

This test was originally intended for elderly population, but is now also used for people with:

Parkinson's

Multiple Sclerosis,

Hip fracture,

Alzheimers disease,

Following an orthopaedic surgery i.e. TKR or THR

Huntington Disease

and others conditions

Equipments required are –

1. stopwatch
2. tape
3. chair with armrests

How to perform the test –
A

1. The patient starts with sitting in a chair.
2. The patient has to stand up upon therapist’s command: walk 3 meters straight ahead, turn around, walk back to the chair and sit down.
3. The time stops when the patient is sits back in the chair.
4. The person is approved to use an assistive device if neccesary.

NOTE: A practice trial should be done before the timed test. If a patient took 14 seconds or longer to complete the test, he or she is classified as high-risk for falling.
