Dynamic gait index is a clinical tool used to assess gait, balance and risk of fall. It assesses the normal steady-state walking and also walking during challenging tasks.
It is used to evaluate improvements in gait post treatment.
It is used for those who have poor balance and are at risk of falling such as:
8 functional walking tasks are to be performed by the subject and to be marked out of three according to the lowest category which applies to the individual.
Total score of the scale is 24.
Scores of 19 or less indicate increased risk of falls.
